You know that feeling when you’re walking to a beer event - or any event really - and you’re already hyped before you even step inside? CoolHead Brew’s greenhouse brewery is something you don’t see everywhere. It genuinely stands out, and for me the location is one of the most important ingredients for events like this. Atmosphere matters - a lot.
Outside: snow, ice and –14 degrees of Finnish winter. Inside: you step straight into a tropical-looking beer paradise. Glass ceilings, greenery, warm lights, a DJ setting the rhythm, people chatting everywhere - and the place already packed. Sold out before the event even began. This isn’t a huge space, but that’s exactly why it works. Cute glasses btw … let’s fill them up.
The breweries were divided into two rooms, which made moving around easy and natural. Each brewery poured two beers, I love that. Fewer choices, better focus - sometimes less is more. One of my favourite things about this venue is how open it feels. You can see into the brewery from several angles, glance outside at the snowy landscape, then turn back to your beer and conversation. I can already imagine how magical this event must be in the summer. Definitely need to come back then.
A well-balanced lineup: playful, bold, classic and a few surprises in between. Here’s what ended up in my glass during the evening.
Freshly Squeezed: Snowball – Glass Pyramid Project
Smoothie / Pastry Sour – 7% | A blizzard in a glass as they call it - but make it tropical. Creamy banana, coconut and soft-serve ice cream vibes wrapped into a thick, snowy pour. Sweet, indulgent and unapologetically fun.
Fluffernutter – CoolHead Brew
Barleywine (with imperial stout influence) – 12% | Big, bold and cozy. A blend of barleywine and imperial stout aged for three years in Jack Daniel’s and Wild Turkey barrels, spiced with peanuts and marshmallows. Rich, dessert-like and warming - exactly the kind of beer that makes –14°C feel like a minor inconvenience.
Masisversary VII: Otaniemi Orientation – Masis Brewery
Imperial / Double NEIPA – 8% | Juicy, hazy and moving at full speed. This anniversary beer celebrates Masis Brewery’s move to Otaniemi. Soft mouthfeel, plenty of hops and just enough bitterness to keep everything balanced. A celebration beer that goes down a little too easily.
Encased in Amber – Tired Uncle Brewing Co.
American Amber Ale – 5% | Toasty malt character, gentle roastiness and a touch of English hop aroma. A solid, drinkable amber that felt refreshingly grounding among all the bigger styles.
Thick As Thieves – Schwarze Rose & Salama
Collaboration with Salama Brewing Imperial / Double NEIPA – 8% | Juicy, smooth and loaded with hops. Callista, Solero and Amarillo bring stone fruit, citrus and tropical notes, wrapped in a velvety body. A hazy DIPA with swag.
Troglodyte – Temperance Brewing Co.
Rotbier – 5% | A traditional Rotbier brewed with care. Malt-forward but clean, subtly spicy and beautifully balanced. A beer that rewards slowing down - and a great reminder that classic styles absolutely belong at modern beer events.
Spektri Sour #5 Lime & Vadelma – Social Brewing Lab by Maku Brewing
Fruited Sour – 5.5% | Bright and refreshing. Lime brings a sharp citrus snap, raspberry softens the edges just enough. A perfect palate reset beer.
Gilded Hedgehog – Fat Lizard Brewing Co.
Belgian IPA – 7.7% | Belgian character meets modern IPA confidence. Fruity esters, gentle spice and a bitterness that knows when to stop. Confident but not loud.
Knocking On Death’s Door – Olarin Panimo
Black IPA – 7% | Dark, roasty and boldly bitter. Chocolatey malt meets resinous hops, with grapefruit and herbal notes keeping everything fresh. A black IPA you can actually drink more than one of - which is both impressive and mildly dangerous.
Mustikas – Tuletorn Brewing
Smoothie / Pastry Sour – 4.2% | Blueberry ice cream in beer form. Thick, smooth and full of real berry depth. Comforting, playful and surprisingly refreshing. This one vanished quickly - for very good reasons.
Bauble – Tuletorn Brewing
Fruited Sour – 9% | Dragonfruit and cherry with a festive twist. Bigger and bolder than it first appears, with a sneaky warmth underneath. Limited bottles, high impact - definitely a “glad I caught this” pour.
Kiwi, Paperi, Sakset – Panimoyhtiö Tuju
New Zealand Pilsner – 5% | Crisp, bright and quietly excellent. New Zealand hops bring tropical notes, lemon and mango, while the pilsner base keeps everything clean. A reminder that not everything needs to be hazy or heavy to shine.
Somewhere between beers, the pizza slices became impossible to ignore. They looked so good that I had to grab one. No photos - sorry. I ate my slice in about a second. Absolutely perfect with the beers and exactly what you want at an event like this: simple, satisfying and gone before you even think about documenting it.
Big thanks to CoolHead for the invitation - and yes, some of the beers in the photos may have been poured strictly for quality control purposes.
A sold-out greenhouse, winter outside, and a warm, buzzing beer community inside. Exactly how beer events should feel. Already looking forward to the next event - and especially this summer edition.
Cheers!
