Cozy backyard vibes in Tampere
Last Thursday I popped into Vilja Beerfest for a quick visit - it’s the kind of event that feels like you’ve accidentally stumbled into a friend’s backyard party… except your friends have really good taste in beer.
For its 4th year, Bistro Vilja’s beautiful backyard transformed into Tampere’s coziest biergarten. There were plenty of seats, covered spots in case the weather decided to be Finnish, and the whole restaurant space open for wandering. Hungry? The kitchen was serving everything from salty snacks to larger plates.
This year’s lineup of taps included:
Do Good Brew, Mallassepät, Revenant, Vaski Cider, Kanavan Panimo, Panimo Himo, Tuju & Salama.
Again, I would love to write about every beer and cider i tasted.. but that's impossible. So here's two standouts:
Vaski Cidery x Antti Autio – Sarastus 5,5%

If cider could be poetry in a glass, Sarastus would be it. Vaski Cidery isn’t just about making cider - they’re blending art, craftsmanship, and the pure taste of Finnish nature. With a Michelin-awarded sommelier, an internationally recognized cider maker, and a painter steering the creative ship, they’re basically the Avengers of cider.
Sarastus is the kind of cider that reminds you what real cider should taste like - crisp, honest, and layered with flavor. None of that overly sweet, artificial stuff. This was so good Vaski might have just claimed the title of my new go-to ciders.
Bone Voyage – Panimoyhtiö Tuju x Smedsbo Slott, 13,5%

This one was interesting - in the best way possible. Bone Voyage is what happens when two creative breweries decide to ignore the style rulebook completely. Part barrel-aged stout, part wheat beer, it’s a full-bodied, rich, and slightly surreal ride. Think dark chocolate and roasted malt, but with this unexpected softness from the wheat that keeps you guessing with every sip.
It’s boozy, it’s bold, and… it feels like the kind of beer you drink knowing it might just kidnap your taste buds for the night.
I only had time for a few tasters this time around, but they didn’t disappoint. It reminded me that sometimes it’s not about chasing the biggest beer list - it’s about the atmosphere, the people you share it with, and the small taster in your hand.
If you’re into chill vibes, great Finnish brews, and a setting that makes you want to linger, put Vilja Beerfest on your calendar for next year.
Kippis!
